3T Power to light up Stangmore Park through Dungannon Swifts Partnership

A football club well-known for being future-focused, Dungannon Swifts F.C., the only Irish Premier League team in Tyrone, is setting a benchmark for sustainability in sport through a partnership with fellow County Tyrone-based business 3T Power, Northern Ireland’s only supplier of 100%, locally-generated renewable electricity for businesses. Swifts’ Stangmore Park facilities including clubhouse and academy are now powered by locally-generated wind electricity, reiterating the club’s commitment to supporting its local community. By embracing renewable electricity and forward-thinking environmental measures, Swifts are positioning themselves ahead of regulatory requirements, ensuring both operational efficiency and a positive community impact.

Staying ahead of sustainability guidelines

While sustainability standards from the Irish Football Association are still being developed, Dungannon Swifts have taken a proactive approach rather than waiting for mandates. Chairman, Keith Boyd notes, “As a forward-thinking club, we always like to stay ahead of the new regulations, so when the opportunity arose to switch to a local company supplying renewable electricity we were delighted to sign up”.

This approach allows the club to anticipate future requirements under UEFA Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines and integrate them into their daily operations without disruption.

A stadium that never switches off

Stangmore Park is a busy hub, with the academy training on the pitch during the day, and the boardroom in use from 9am, keeping electricity running until 11pm most days. High energy demands make it essential for the club’s bottom line and carbon footprint to combine efficiency with sustainability. By partnering with 3T Power for a locally-generated renewable electricity supply, the club can meet its operational needs while reinforcing its environmental goals. Keith adds, “3T Power offered an extremely competitive rate, especially with the sheer amount of electricity we use as a club. Partnering with 3T Power will also help us meet objectives under UEFA Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines, and we are re-assured that the 3T Power’s partnership model means we will have a key contact to support us through our sustainability journey into the future.”

The club is also generating some of its own electricity through a solar panel installation and is exploring installing EV charging points, further demonstrating its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Leading by example

Dungannon Swifts believe that sustainability initiatives have a broader influence on their community. Keith continues, “We believe that embracing renewable energy will have a positive influence for our fans, players and guests as they come through Stangmore Park.”

By taking decisive action now, the club is not only ahead of the game in terms of regulatory compliance, but is also setting a strong example for other sporting organisations across the region.

Commenting on the importance of this high-profile organisation openly embracing renewable energy 3T Power Sales Manager John-Francis Collins said, “Sporting clubs like Dungannon Swifts are an essential part of the fabric of our communities and not only do they offer opportunities for us to come together to cheer on our favourite teams, they also play an important role in shaping the future generations. By incorporating an environmentally responsible ethos, they are showing that reducing carbon emissions to protect and preserve our environment is something that can be embraced by every organisation, no matter their size or their mission. We are proud to work with Dungannon Swifts to help them ensure a sustainable club for future generations.”

A partnership for the future

The club describes its experience with 3T Power as seamless and professional, giving confidence that its sustainability objectives are being fully supported. Simon adds, “Thanks to our association with 3T Power, it has eased our minds about future requirements around the Social and Environmental Sustainability Guidelines that UEFA have currently in place and ones they may add in the future”.

With forward-thinking leadership, a commitment to renewable energy, and a focus on community impact, Dungannon Swifts are proving that being ahead of the curve in sustainability is both achievable and beneficial for the club, its supporters, and the wider sporting landscape.
